Outreach at GMUMC
GMUMC supports a large variety of charitable groups through their time, talents and donations. The Action Center in Lakewood is one of our primary organizations we work with to impact our community in a number of ways....by collecting peanut butter, tuna, and macaroni & cheese drives, supporting backpack and school supply drives, and the Holiday Gift Shop. In 2024 we sponsored 4 families with a total of 13 children with Christmas gifts and dinner. Our members provide dinners for The Ronald McDonald House several times a year. Each December, the Outreach Committee hosts a sale of products from the Women’s Bean Project with all sales going back directly to the Women’s Bean Project. We support Family Promise of Greater Denver by attending their annual fundraiser and by providing meals for the participants. We work with Vitalant Blood Center to host blood drives at the church. Clothing and donations are regularly collected for The Gathering Place, which serves women, transgender individuals, and their children who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. GMUMC is part of the West Metro Interfaith Coalition supporting Habitat for Humanity, building homes and hosting fundraising efforts at our annual Pumpkin Patch. Several fundraisers are supported through GMUMC’s participation in walk/run events such as Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, MS 100, Race for the Cure, and Second Wind Walk.
Our building serves as a meeting place for a number of community groups and organizations, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Rocky Mountain Ukulele Orchestra, Lakewood Symphony, Green Mountain Civic Association, and several homeowners associations.

GMUMC Volunteers in Mission
Volunteers in Mission (VIM) at Green Mountain United Methodist Church is a group of dedicated people who, when a need arises, are ready to answer God’s call to help wherever it may be. VIM participates in short-term mission service locally, nationally and internationally, and consists of lay and clergy, young and old. Most VIM trips are coordinated with the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR), the humanitarian relief and development arm of the UMC.
VIM has done an array of work to assist with disaster relief; including work as complex as mucking out homes, demolition work and drywall installation to more simple tasks such as painting, yard clean up and assembling disaster kits. Past trips have included working on disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires in places such as New Orleans LA, Staten Island NY, Hope City CA, and Greenville KS, and assisting on a more local scale with Habitat For Humanity and Beaver Creek Youth Camp in South Fork CO. VIM has also assembled disaster kits at the UMCOR depot in Salt Lake City, UT.
Green Mountain UMC and the Mountain Sky Conference are part of the Western Jurisdiction. More information about the jurisdiction’s VIM and opportunities to serve can be found at https://umvimwj.com.
