Community Garden
In 2016, GMUMC's Church and Society Committee began discussing and researching a community garden on the church’s property. Through their research, they learned of a study by the City of Lakewood to determine and recommend locations for community gardens in areas considered to be 'food deserts'. The city determined GMUMC was indeed located in/near a food desert, and at that point, the committee began planning and working in earnest with Denver Urban Gardens.
Community gardens provide a myriad of benefits for individuals, families and communities. GMUMC is excited to be a part of a project that adds value to our community.
Planting begun in the spring of 2020, and we currrently have 11 of the 20 plots leased. If you'd like to sign up for a plot, you can do so at Denver Urban Gardens site.
