The month of May is not unlike December—festive, resplendent, hopeful—although the hope of May is aimed not in expecatation of Christmas, but Summer vacation.

The Travel Industry Association of America once polled travel professionals and put together a list of the funniest questions asked by tourists. Here’s just a few: “How long is a one-day pass good for?” @Yosemite Nat’l Park, “When do they turn off the waterfall?” “Why don’t you have more signs saying to keep the area pristine?” From an American tourist in Hawaii, “How much does it cost to mail a letter to the U.S?” And, this one might be my favorite, asked by a passenger on a boat passing through the fjords of Alaska’s Inside Passage, “What’s the altitude here?” Granted, there are stunning, snow peaked mountains on either side; but, you’re still floating at sea level!

Well, we’re not all rocket scientists. There’s a lot we don’t understand. Mostly, I think, we just want to be understood. I’m sure these were all sincere questions, asked innocently for clarification. As were the travel professionals providing appropriately patient and attentive customer service. And that’s kinda where I’m going with this month’s article. What kind of Christian customer service (patient consideration, humility, forgiveness, etc.) are you providing with some of your more challenging interactions? Who needs your loving service the most? And with whom do you most need to share it for your own spiritual progression?

And for your convenience, you can start engaging in loving service right here at home, this very month of May, even before the commencement of any of your summer travel plans.
