We Are Easter People
Easter people, raise your voices, sounds of heaven in earth should ring.
Christ has brought us heaven’s choices; heavenly music, let it ring.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Easter people let us sing.
Every day to us is Easter, with its resurrection song.
When in trouble move the faster to our God who rights the wrong.
Alleluia! Alleluia! See the power of heavenly throngs.
– Easter People, Raise Your Voices
United Methodist Hymnal #304
The songs still hang in the air, the scent of the flowers still perfumes the sanctuary, colored eggs still have a place in many refrigerators, and chocolate Easter bunnies may not have been entirely consumed.
Easter may be past, but the song reminds us that for us, as Christians, every day is, or should be, Easter. Every day is, or should be, a celebration of God’s profound love for all of creation.
Easter is God’s clear message to us that there is absolutely nothing that can get in the way of God’s love for each and every one of us. We may have our idiosyncrasies, we may be a pain in somebody’s neck, our time and energy may be consumed with “things of this world,” but God still loves us. We may forget about God, except on Sundays or perhaps the high holidays, but God still loves us.
As we go about our days, may all we do be an affirmation that God’s love is so profound that it has been, and will continue to be, shown through the gathered community known as Green Mountain United Methodist Church. May all our all we do here be a statement that “Every day to us is Easter, with its resurrection song!
Peace, heiwa, shalom, pax, salaam,
Pastor Paul
